  • As a group, we had a list of ideas. As PM, I had all of us give multiple votes for the ideas we liked. The one that won was from one of our SWEs who expressed a problem hwhere it was hard to find others to collaborate on projects with as a newbie in tech.

Interview key findings

Socials Needed - LinkedIn, at least, needs to be on connected so there can be "harmless stalking"

Must Have Timeline - Needs to see a timeline + some actual work before joining a team

Filters = Vital - Detailed filters to easily find the right project

our response

We added social icons on users profiles. It’s an option for users to add or not but we suggest it because there’s more trust when you share more about yourself!

Users are able to see what stage of the project a team/other user is at and the direction they’re headed. This gives some transparency before they decide to sign on.

We emulated how good LinkedIn filters were when you’re trying to find the “perfect job” in our search bar for finding projects users post.

It was vital for us to make sure all copy was written in a casual and friendly tone to ensure that LaunchPad is for passion and fun! Not just work - work - work!

Casual Scene
Build a rapport with people through a casual setting so it’s not a “work” feeling app

Changes during the Agile Process || Our New MVP || UI & Why

Key changes

THE MVP!

user task 1

User is able to create an account and to onboard to fill out their information

user task 2

User is able to create a project and invite others to join

user task 3

User is able to ask to join a project and get accepted

THE UI & WHY

  • The lightbulb with fire on the bottom represents an idea launching into action

  • Bright green conveys looking forward to the future/futurism. Deep purple conveys wisdom.

  • The imagery has a drawing/sketch aesthetic to really hone in the idea that LaunchPad is for the beginning stages of an idea

  • Future font is an easy sans serif font to read but also allures friendliness and a casual tone.

IF WE HAD MORE TIME…

1-2 extra months

  • Infringement Prevention - Some sort of NDA, terms and conditions, or copyright feature needs to be implemented

  • Messaging - Ability for members to connect through the platform live

  • Searching, Filtering, Sorting Projects - Helps members find projects to join

  • Authentication - Currently there is none for project viewing

3-4 extra months

  • ADP List Integration - All Users want a mentor to have access to their work, separate mentorship story in product?

  • Hashtags - Able to see others interests/projects before collaborating (Hashtags that link to Homepage?)

  • Gamification Elements - It’s important for this platform to have a casual fun tone, trigger dopamine

  • Project Feed - Like Instagram: a way to share and view project updates, screenshot, etc for connecting

what i learned

iron fist when necessary

This was my first time leading a cross functional team of eight designers and software engineers. Initially, I took a friendly and accommodating approach, aiming to ensure team members' satisfaction. However, in hindsight, a more assertive leadership style might have been beneficial, as it led to few team members not taking their roles seriously.

Additionally, due to my natural inclination to accommodate, I readily assumed the lead in UX research when requested by my teammates. While I trusted their ability to handle their design responsibilities, unforeseen challenges required me to shoulder more of the workload. It's worth noting that the situation might have unfolded differently had there been some form of compensation involved.

Nevertheless, I’m happy with my transparent communication and leadership in driving the development (& pivoting) the MVP.

AGILE. jira. the whole shabang.

Learning Agile was an incredible experience. I now feel exceptionally well-prepared for my upcoming role as a UX designer, knowing that I am proficient in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies. My prior knowledge of using Slack was undoubtedly advantageous, but gaining hands-on experience in managing a complete Jira account, collaborating closely with software engineers, and grasping their terminology and requirements was truly invaluable. Additionally, my time as a project manager taught me the importance of crafting clear and concise messages on Slack, summarizing meetings effectively, and maintaining high productivity during our frequent three to five weekly meetings and standups. These skills have also enabled me to efficiently manage my team’s work.
